The Sierra de Ancares is a truly unique region and a surprise to first-time visitors; the beauty of its tremendous peaks ( the Cuíña, Mustallar and Penalonga) and picturesque areas (such as Vilarello de Donís, Piornedo, Suárbol and Balouta) the abundance of wildlife (an example being the rare capercaillie, in danger of extinction); and the unusual nature of its cultural heritage such as the famous pallozas (traditional Galician constructions) that date back to the pre-Roman era.
